Moments

Our lives are made up of moments.
Small events in time.

Some are major events like birth and death, marriage or divorce, serious accidents or illnesses. Other events seem small and insignificant.
What we seem to miss is that the small events are really whats important because it is those small events that all add up to make a lifetime. It’s when we get closer and closer to the end of our lifetime that we begin to look back and realize which events were truly important and life changing for us.
We may eat everyday and not remember what we ate but the fact is, eating caused us to live another day.
Without eating we would die and yet eating is not one of those important events that we look back upon and remember.

If you would pause for a moment and think about the past events of your life, I think that there would be a common thread running through all of your significant memories.
What is the thread that would tie all of your significant events together? As you may have already guessed, that thread would be “people.” Family members, friends, strangers and acquaintances.
Some people come into our lives for a short period of time and yet sometimes they are the ones who impact our lives the most.
Some people we see more than others and they just don’t seem to have much impact on us.
Most people probably have a mixture of both.

Let’s switch gears a minute.

What about God?
If we were to ask God what is important to Him, I think that He would tell us that His Holiness and Righteousness are most important to Him followed by His greatest creation, people.

Why people?

Because God is fully aware that people are eternal, that people last forever.
So what significant moments does God offer His eternal creation?

1 Peter 1:2
May GRACE and PEACE be YOURS in the FULLEST MEASURE!

What moments does God desire to share with us?

Grace is that which brings joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness, grace of speech and good will.
Peace is “the absence of strife” which means “great happiness”.
Fullest Measure is increasing, multiplied.

Where does this always increasing joy, pleasure and good will come from?
Where does this always increasing absence of strife and great happiness come from?

Let’s keep reading in 1 Peter.
Let’s take the time to read the following passage slowly.
Let’s dwell on Gods goodness and mercy.
Let’s allow the Hoy Spirit to speak to our hearts.
With each verse, let’s take the time to reflect on those life changing moments that take us from the everyday to the eternal that only God could provide.

1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, IF NECESSARY, you have been distressed by various trials,
7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
9 obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.

What moments has God provided you?

Jesus.
Mercy.
Born again.
Living hope.
Obtaining an inheritance.
Imperishable and undefiled.
Reserved in Heaven for us.
Protected by the power of God.
Faith.
Salvation.
Rejoicing.
Distressing trials.
Proof of faith.
More precious than gold.
Our Praise, Glory and Honor to Jesus.
Love for Jesus.
Belief in Jesus.
Joy beyond expression.
Full of Glory.
The Salvation of your Souls!

Yes, life is made up of moments, but which moments will you allow yourself to be most influenced by?
